The Nia Technique is a high-energy, expressive dance practice which combines elements of Modern, Jazz and Duncan dance; martial arts, and yoga. Developed in the early 1980's by dance-fitness pioneers Debbie and Carlos Rosas, Nia (short for "neuromuscular integrative action") engages body, mind and spirit to deliver a fantastic whole-body workout - sweaty, creative, rhythmic and FUN!
Benefits of Nia:
- Cardiovascular Conditioning
- Improved Muscle Tone
- Weight Management
- Emotional Release
- Greater flexibility
- Stress Reduction
- Improved concentration
Yes, Nia involves some basic choreography and technique; but in Cathy's class, you will receive gentle guidance and instruction, so that you can find your own "way in" to the experience...as in meditation, shamanic journeying, or any other powerful tool for self-exploration and healing, you may find Nia a very emotional, spiritual and transformative practice...it can change the way you think about yourself and the world around you; it can teach you to walk along what some Native American philosophies describe as "the path of Beauty." Nia can and will change your life!
